AURORA, CO—JULY 14, 2012—The super consistent Block N Tackle made it look easy as he romped to a 1 ½ length win in the $76,750 Rocky Mountain Quarter Horse Derby Saturday afternoon at Arapahoe Park.

Under jockey Tony Guymon, Block N Tackle took the lead early then completed his 350 yard task in :17.497 seconds to pickup the $30,700 winner's purse for owner's Ralph and Carolyn Fales of Coolidge, Arizona.

Matthew Fales, Ralph and Carolyn's son, bred and trains the Tac It Like a Man gelding who scored his seventh career win in nine starts. Block N Tackle has earned $133,905 with a 7-1-1 record. He is out of the Takin On The Cash mare Watchin The Rain. He came in to the derby with the fourth fastest time after winning his trial by head on June 29.

After getting bumped at the start, Thomas Bradbury and Lisa Beauprez' Duplicate Check recovered nicely to pickup $15,350 for second. The royally bred Corona Cartel filly is trained by John Hammes and ridden by Vince Guerra. Zory Kuzyk bred the bay miss in California from the First Down Dash mare Check Her Twice. She is a half-sister to multiple stakes sire Check Him Out. She went off as a 21-1 longshot.

The unlucky horse in the race was Baby I Like It, who fell to his face after the start but recovered to finish third. The Ivory James colt had come into the Rocky Mountain Derby undefeated in five career starts at Arapahoe Park and was the 5-2 second choice for owner Hugo Barron Sierra, trainer Jose Manuel Barron and jockey Alejandro Luna. He is out of the Streakin La Jolla mare Baby La Jolla.
Molten Maven, Kool Kue Country, D E Trubador, Jmf Ryons Ocean, Fast Prize Shiney, Top Gun B and Cash This Panther completed the field.
Fastest qualifier Kool Kue Country, who won her first race in the trials in her sixth lifetime start, took fifth. The 2-1 favorite, Top Gun B, faded to ninth after breaking alertly.
