Cowgirl N Up Best In John Deere Turf Paradise Juvenile Challenge

PHOENIX, AZ—APRIL 30, 2017—Cowgirl N Up was the much-the-best on Sunday when she went wire-to-wire to defeat fastest qualifier Famous Joker by one-length in the $34,380 John Deere Turf Paradise Juvenile Challenge. Arrow Of Cupid finished a neck behind to take third.

Ridden by jockey Jorge Bourdieu, Cowgirl N Up raced over the 350 yards in :17.891 seconds, a 91-speed index into a 7-mph headwind. It was the second straight win in as many starts for the daughter of second crop sire Texas Icon.

An Arizona homebred for Ralph and Carolyn Fales, Cowgirl N Up entered the finals off the second fastest qualifying time in the April 8th trials. Out of the Canth mare Secret Return, the $15,815 winners' purse boosted her total to $17,601.

Cowgirl N Up was second Fales homebred to earn a starting spot in the Bank of America Challenge Championships on October 14th at Prairie Meadows. The bay filly is now eligible to compete in the Grade 2 $130,000-Guranteed John Deere Juvenile Championship.

Famous Joker, a colt by leading sire One Famous Eagle racing for owner Yuriana Ramirez, picked up $6,876 for finished second. Ricardo Ramirez conditions the Grant Farms LLC Louisiana-bred out of Ms Pilot Point by Splash Bac. The half-brother to All American Futurity(G1) winner Mr Pilito was ridden by Raul Ramirez, Jr.

Arrow Of Cupid bobbled the break in an awkward start under jockey Emilio Tapia. Winless in two starts, the gelded son of multiple stakes sire Foose races for owner Veronica Pelayo and trainer Eloy Mendoza. Bred in Missouri by Burly Jenkins, from the Teller Cartel mare Rita Alto, Arrow Of Cupid picked up $3,438 for her effort.

Dig Deeper, Kr American Pi, Stay All Nite, Hw Double Down Perry, Pure Ivory, Tribal Dash Princess and Looker Over completed the field.
